Used car dealers think they have found a solution. It's a device they install on every car they sell that alerts drivers when they have a payment due. Day by delinquent day, the alert gets increasingly insistent. On the fifth day, the car won't start.

The little black box with a four-button keypad is mounted under the dash and connected to the car's electrical harness. Once the dealer and the customer have agreed on a payment schedule, it is  loaded into a Windows-based computer program in the dealer's office.

If you have bad credit, or no established credit history, financing a car just got easier. A product called the on-time system is sweeping the used car business.

The device is installed under the car's dashboard. Each month, when you make your payment you get a new code. That code allows you to start your car until another payment is due.

The device beeps, then a light starts blinking when it's time to make your next payment.

HOW ON TIME® WORKS

The ON TIME® system is a legal electronic starter interrupt unit that uses microprocessor based technology to turn credit challenged prospects into paying customers, who pay in a timely manner. It solves the finance dilemmas by making it possible for a vehicle buyer to purchase and finance a vehicle. ON TIME® will remind the vehicle operator when payments are due or it will disable the vehicle if payments are not made in a timely manner.

The G2000 Key Pad system as shown on the right is a visible reminder to is a visible reminder to the user that they are in good standing or they need to make a payment. If the customer is current with their payments an LED will flash green to confirm payments are on time. When a payment is due the flashing LED will turn Red and the customer will be aware that a payment must be made.

  • 3 days before the vehicle disables, the number 3 on the key pad will flash and remind the customer that there is only 3 days left to make their payment.

  • 2 days before the vehicle disables, the number 2 on the key pad will flash and remind the customer that there is only 2 days left to make their payment.

  • 1 day before the vehicle disables, the number 1 on the key pad will flash coupled with a beep and this means they are on the last operation day and within a 24 hour period, the vehicle will be disabled.

EMERGENCY CODES: are available in the event the vehicle has been disabled and emergency use is required.

The ON TIME® brain as shown on the left is the true intelligence to the entire system. The brain stores all the financial information that the finance company requires of the customer. For every payment due there is a corresponding 6 digit code. When a payment is made by the customer the finance company will then release a code to the customer to enter into the key pad. The brain knows which code should be entered and upon entry, will allow the customer to start their vehicle until the next payment due date.
