WASHINGTON - Volkswagen AG is recalling 39,583 2005 Jetta sedans sold in the United States.

On these vehicles equipped with a 2.5l gasoline engine, a fuel supply line clamp located in the engine compartment may not be positioned properly and could cause a fuel leak. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), could result in a fire.

Dealers will inspect the position of the engine compartment fuel supply line clamp and, if necessary, replace the clamp. The recall is expected to begin July 2005.

For more information, refer to VW Recall No. M1 and NHTSA Campaign ID No. 05V305000.
